there are some retards that walk the same way i do from school. they started talking to my friend like they were gonna beat him up. i told them not to try because i do zui quan (a type of kung fu) and karate and that they wouldint stand a chance, i didint want to half to hurt them. they triped my friend and started walking again. they then started to throw rocks at me and my friend, they have bad aim :) they do that kind of stuff to me and my friend almost every day. i usualy try to avoid fights so i just ignore them. what should i do? my friend has a pretty good idea but i dont want to go that far, hint hint.
What should i do?(look at details) martial arts?
agree.. don't provoke them.. don't tell them that you know zui quan or the like because they're bullies... the would more likely pick you more if you do that... just go on a different route and tell them to a local police
Reply:you do drunken boxing? hmmm....are you sure you can defend yourself with that?
Reply:Its up to you how much crap you can take, but martial arts is about having some balls and standing up for yourself, and these guys are throwing **** at you
Its like Hatsumi sayed, if you turn both cheeks you will have no more cheeks left
Reply:You're too funny. Don't try to use some lame martial art on a group of guys. Trust me, you'll get beat up.
Reply:Find another way home.
I'm not kidding. Either choose a different route (even if it's longer) or see if you can get a trusted adult to drive you and your friend.
While you're at it, talk to a parent or a teacher. Tell them what's been happening. I would also recommend that you keep a record of the kids' harrassment. When they start to bother you, write down the time, the place, and what they did. (maybe even keep a tape recorder in your clothes so you can record the threats they made...) If those kids really harrass you as often as you say, you ought to have sufficient evidence within a few weeks.
Trust me-- unless you and your friend are in *immediate* danger, you really want to avoid getting into a fight. Fights last for only a few minutes, if that, but their consequences can go on for much longer... ie., serious injuries and lawsuits. In the long run, most fights really are not worth it.
Chinese proverb: "Never fight when you can run!"
While you're at it, check out this link: http://www.nononsenseselfdefense.com/zer... (this discusses the messy ramifications of using force on school property. Just FYI.)
Reply:You may be able to beat them up, but you can not beat their lawyer or the police. Clowns like that will most likely sue. Your best bet is to take another route home. Good luck!
Reply:I don't think drunken boxing will help much in a real fight.
I think they'll just laugh at you and beat you up if you try to fight them with it...
I'm sorry but drunken boxing is useless in a real fight.
And please. It sounds a bit arrogant when you say I know I could beat them up, or they have no chance against me.
And learn how to spell please.
Reply:I love it when people judge something that they don't know anything about... Everyone is quite confident to say that drunken boxing wouldn't work unless the person was a master at it... REALLY? WHAT GENIUS...
Boxing won't work unless you're good at it, BJJ won't work unless you're good at it, Karate won't work unless you're good at it... Do you see where I'm going with this?
The only way to truly judge the effectiveness of any art is to train it, master it and then disprove it, and really who has the time to train that many styles?
Or perhaps you could try challanging some highly respected practioners of styles you think are useless to see how you go, I hope that you are half as good as you think you are though if you challange good fighters.
Oh and as for the actualy question. If you can try another way home. If that doesn't work try a different time. Hang at school for a bit before you leave and you should miss them altogether. If none of that works call the cops, no point going to jail fo a bunch of idiots dude... Mind you if they attack you by all means do what you have to, no judge in the land is going to convict when you're outnumbered, just make sure you don't go too far.

A friend of mine?
a friend of mine is quite forgivable but he still feels angry on stuff...like if anyone bothers him for a period of time and stuff he still lets them but sometimes he would feel like beating them up...well he is quite strong (he doesn’t train or anything)but he is still strong he he can lift about 75kg without any help and once he punched me just to joke around with not much strength and I start bleeding and I was bruised for bout 2weeks...but he looks perfectly normal not much muscle(just normal) ect(he used to train kung fu though but for like 2-3years)anyway he aint the kind of guy u call bully, jerk, clown ect he is the kind of guy that stays quite but anyway we will start school soon...and there r about 2-3 ppl that got him pissed these past 2 years but he tried to ignore them he said if they bother me this year I will seriously beat em...he never did that to someone yet and I now him since I was but 2 and I saw him angry a couple of time and he wouldn’t care of wat happens...
A friend of mine?
well i think that ur friend should not always keep his anger inside of him. tell him to go to class that let his anger go away and another thing who should always be there as a friend to calm him down never tell him to go beat up someone. anyways. the reason why i said that was because i had bestfriend like that and me and him are really close well one time he told me that no one is going to brother him so i look at him and than we change the conversation so than we was at school and this kid got into his face so my bestfriend got so angry that he punch him and he was about to kill him i had to get him off and no one could have get him off so the police came and now he in proabation and can't do anything.

Is it possialbe to make a punching bag out of home junk or stuff?
I wish to have a simple punchingbag which is not vertical and that does not haing from the roof.
I don't have support for that.
I once had a punching bag; search the home for it but found nothing but to told tat my mom threw it away.
iam in kung fu and wish to train with a puchingbag but i no longer have one.
Moeny is a problem because i need to start saving moeny for a car or something that has vaule.
Becuase iam a high school graduite and wish to use all i got in importance then in something i can make.
Is it possialbe to make a punching bag out of home junk or stuff?
try putting a few pillow cases inside each other. Then take something such as wool or cotton and put it in the bag. if you really want it to be hard, stick some bamboo inside the bag (a dollar for like 5) inside to strenthen it and put the wool/cotton around that. otherwise youd break your hand after a while.
as to hang it, use 2 or three hook screws and run a string from the bottom of the bag sewed to the very top sewed again. take 3 strands from inside and tie them to the ceiling with the hooks, and it should hold well.
I just thought of that off the top of my head. Good luck with money. I do have a program where im making a few thousand a month online.
Reply:use your school bag
Reply:get an old army duffle bag fill it with dirty clothes.they are fairly cheap and when you are done beatting the hell outta it you can take your clothes and wash them.
Reply:Try taking a large spring and mounting it to the floor (you could find this at a junkyard or scrap yard for cheap). At the top of the spring you could attach a ball of something soft (of your choice) and wrap it in a couple layers of duct tape to make it have a firm skin. Just an idea for you to toss around.
Reply:Try using your little brother. You will not have to hang him from supports, he is cheap, reuseable and generally more fun than an ordinary punching bag.

I'ved done Hapkido and Muay thai so i think it going to help if i do San shou
San shou should i ????
i take san shou and its great, its like muay thai with take downs. Just curious, where are you going to school?
Reply:I agree that San Shou is a bit like kick boxing with take downs. I say go for it definitely.
Reply:It sounds like you already have some stand-up experience. Why not try Judo and learn takedowns with a little ground submission training? This should help make you a more well rounded fighter.

If you're interested in him, just go up to him and ask him in person that you like him and want to go out with him to "Chuck E. Cheese" pizza and the movies. Don't wait for him to ask you out. He could be your future childhood sweetheart. Anytime he might not take Martial Arts classes again at that Dojo you both go to and you might not see him ever again since he goes to a different school. Good luck.
Reply:Just smile and simply ask him by saying something like do yuo want to go to _______? Since u both have been eyeing each other he will either say yes or say no and suggest another day. Good luck, and just be yourself!
Reply:whilst u are walkin him home on the wednesday if he shows an interest in you/ you have plenty to talk about, suggest you meet up outside of your kung fu class, make it a light suggestion for example for a dink or a bite to eat
Reply:i think that you should ask him out when you go on your walk with him if you feel he is eyeing you then most likely you both feel that little chemistry when around each other...when you do it dont feel nervouse just ask him to get something to eat with you....gradually hell open up and youll hit it off good luck !!

What is a safe and easy way for a teen to lose 50 pounds?
How to Lose Weight Naturally?
How to lose weight naturally has been in debate for years.
Some say low carb. Some say high carb. Some say it's how much food. Some say it's how much exercise. But none of these covers the whole picture.
How to lose weight naturally is not rocket science. It just takes accepting the facts of these seven natural laws of weight loss, plus good old-fashioned stick-to-itiveness.
Seven Laws of How to Lose Weight Naturally
1. Make a commitment to whatever it takes. You not only need to know what to do, you also have to manage yourself in such a way that you do it. If you already knew exactly how to get yourself to lose weight and keep it off, you'd be at your perfect weight right now. Without 100% commitment to do what it takes, your goal has no staying power.
2. Start from a foundation of happiness. Most people think losing weight will make them happy. But happiness is a mental state that can only be created right now. And nobody wins at any challenge if they're unhappy. So be happy. Accept yourself and your current circumstances and be enthusiastic about the future you're creating.
3. Design your own healthy diet plan. Natural doesn't mean spontaneous. As a matter of fact, spontaneous gratification is what gets most of us into trouble. Just like managing your time and money, weight management takes planning and organization. To burn more calories than you consume, based on your lifestyle, how are you going to handle the details?
4. Manage your emotions. Emotional eating is a major reason for failure. We've learned to use sweets, fatty foods and overeating for entertainment, celebration and to sooth and stuff down unpleasant emotions. Come up with a list of other things you enjoy (besides eating). And begin exchanging old bad habits for healthy new ways of enjoyment and soothing.
5. Find a way to exercise daily. Exercise is healthy and burns calories. It doesn't have to be complicated or extreme. It just has to happen. Decide what kind would be best for you and work it out with your schedule. There are great exercise videos, walking paths and a variety of gyms everywhere. Choose a time and method and make it a regular habit.
6. Keep a Journal. If you can't measure it, you can't manage it. Studies show the great majority of people who lose weight and keep it off are very aware of what they eat and the calories they consume. Many keep a journal. Research shows those who guess at the amounts, without writing them down (at least in the beginning), grossly underestimate their calories.
7. Be persistent. Nothing gets accomplished without persistence. Persistence is the only common denominator of all successful people. The story goes that Thomas Edison had 999 failures before he finally invented the light bulb. If you've tried and failed 999 times, learn from your mistakes and do it better next time. Reply:Losing weight is a simple equation: if you burn more calories than you eat, the weight will come off. Start off by estimating how many calories you burn each day using the calorie calculator http://straighthealth.com/pages/tools/ca... This will give you an idea of how many calories to eat. Healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week. To lose 1 pound per week you need to create a calorie deficit (burn more than you eat) of 500 calories per day. To lose 2 pounds a week, you have to double the deficit to 1000 calories per day. You can achieve this by eating less, exercising more or a combination of both.

Reply:You're going to have to cut back your calories by eating smaller portions. You don't necessarily have to eat salad to lose weight. Just eat about half as much per meal as you usually would. Bring healthy snacks, such as carrot sticks and apple slices with you to school so you can have a little snack between meals so you don't pass out from getting too hungry. You have to consume less than 2000 calories per day in order to start losing weight. Try to eat only about 1200 total calories per day. It's pretty easy. When you're given a choice between chips and a piece of fruit, choose the fruit. When you have a choice of regular or diet soda, go for diet. The first week or so, you'll feel sort of hungry, but after a while your stomach will start to shrink and you will become used to your smaller portions, and then you'll find that you couldn't eat more if you tried! I think your workout routine sounds adequate- try to do at least 30 minutes of cardio 3 times a week, and maybe if you have a dog you can take him for long walks around the block in the evenings. The pounds will come off slowly but surely. If you do all this, you can probably be at your goal weight by the beginning of 2008 or so.

The only way to succeed is to persist.

What sould i do?(look at details)?
there are some retards that walk the same way i do from school. they started talking to my friend like they were gonna beat him up. i told them not to try because i do zui quan (a type of kung fu) and they wouldint stand a chance and i didint want to half to hurt them. they triped my friend and started walking again. they then started to throw rocks at me and my friend, they have bad aim :) they do that kind of stuff to me and my friend almost every day. i usualy try to avoid fights so i just ignore them. what should i do? my friend has a pretty good idea but i dont want to go that far, hint hint. what should i do?
What sould i do?(look at details)?
first of all, it is wonderful that you don't want to fight with anyone and you care so much about your friend. Here where I live, if this were to happen on the way to school for my kids or on their way home from school, from my front door or to my front door, they are considered bound to school policy and they can easily be reported, get detention, or suspension or worse, the police can be called and they can be charged.
Reply:unfortunately they will continue to harrass until you use your kung fu....school policy, detention, police will only make it worse...take'm out

Which fighting style should I try?
I am going on 25-years old %26amp; I am thinking about trying martial arts again for the third time. I tried it when I was 14, then when I was 19, now at almost at age 25, I am thinking of doing it again. But I really don't wanna waste my money or time. When I was 14, I tried Jeet-Kune-Do. Then at 19, I tried Chinese Kung-Fu. I'm a life long Bruce Lee fan. Those styles worked for him, but not for me cause I learned nothing from either style. I am not really a physical person. I've always been a big guy and kinda on the chubby side. Not so much more now though, but I am still big. So if I get back into martial arts, what kind of school should I go to? And does martial arts really work in fist fights or is it all for show? Cause most fights I see are guys laying on the ground, wrestling. It seems like UFC ground fighting is the best style out there.
Which fighting style should I try?
For striking: muay thai, kickboxing, boxing, sanshou, kyokushin and shidokan karate.
For grappling: judo, brazilian jujitsu, sambo, wrestling.
Jeet Kune do is more a philosophy than a martial art, to discard what's useless, and to use what works, you could say it's the genesis of modern MMA (mixed martial arts)
"UFC ground fighting" is just a mixture of grappling arts, mentioned above. The most common ones nowadays are brazilian jujitsu and wrestling.
I hope this information is useful.
good luck!
Reply:muay thai is great. i train along with jiu-jitsu. any style can work for you, its just you have to be comfortable with it. i have trained in tae kwon do, kung fu, and a little bif of judo, and loved them all. the reason the UFC guys do what they do is because they have to be trained in multiple disciplines. most of them train muay thai, boxing, greco roman wrestling, jiu-jitsu, and judo. they need all those because there is no tell where the fight might go so they have to be prepared to fight from anywhere.
Reply:What styles are available in your town? I would recommend basing your decision not so much on the specific style, but by the school and instructor. Visit a couple of the dojos around so you can actually see if it's something you are interested in. Ask a lot of questions and observe how the instructor interacts with his/her students. If you let me know what kinds of schools are near you I can try to help a little more. The UFC ground fighting you're talking about is most likely jujitsu. There are also MMA schools, who teach a variety of stand-up and ground fighting techniques. I think it's easier to have a base before joining an MMA school, but that also depends on how good the instructor is.
Reply:I would try the internal martial arts such as Tai Chi. The moves are slow but they hide a wealth of strength if you study for long enough. You will develop self confidence as your balance improves dramatically and you will find that your stress level decreases tremendously, which makes you feel calmer in situations where fighting may be necessary. If you are not really a physical person I definitely recommend the internal martial arts. Although street fighting skills may take longer to develop, you will develop other skills that help more in situations where fights may occur. And the physical and mental benefits from the work is amazing. You will very quickly improve your breath control, increase blood flow through the entire body, and generally improve every aspect of your health. You will be able to quickly bring your body to a calm, relaxed state in any circumstance.
Reply:you should try kickboxing,it will increase your physical ability and fit yourself, then you can try capoeira
Reply:i a gree with syntheticmynd , do muay thai , it will increase your skill in martial art and also burn your fat faster ,...
Reply:anything thats effective in a street fight.
Reply:Before you take any style I would look at why you have not learned on two previous occassions. Perhaps your approach to learning was wrong or the instructors while good martial artists may not have been very good instructors. It could be a combination of both and I have found that some people have a problem learning martial arts so your teaching approach has to be modified to teach them or they flounder. That being said shop around and look for a good instructor who can teach, not one that is just a good martial artist. If you can find one that teaches what appeals to you in so far as the type/style of martial art then thats even better.
While the wrestling, grappling styles are very effective keep in mind that they have rules that favor that type of fighting and the fight going to the ground. No kicks or knees to the groin; no eye or finger jabs; no fish hooking or ear clapping or head butts; no elbows to the spine or rabbit punches to the back of the skull. These are all techniques that a skilled, well trained martial artist would apply in a street situation. They are very effective and end the fight before it ever reaches the ground or while a person is trying to get you to the ground. But if you prefer the ground fighting aspects then look for a well organized instructor who posesses the abilty to teach. Visit each school a couple of times and observe who is teaching and watch the classes. Look to see how he handles a student that is struggling with something and if he succeeds in making a negative into a positive. Also look to see if the instructor presents techniques that are appropriate for the skill level of the students. Some techniques are very difficult to learn if you have not learned something else first. Talk to the students afterwards and see if they are happy with the level and quality of the instruction. So shop around and see what is available and if there is a good instructor out there that teaches it. You will be more likely to find them if you take the time and make the extra effort and probably be much happier in the long run and not feel like you wasted your time or money.
Reply:Well, you can try Aikido, since you're not really "physical." It seems to be a good style to get into after you've matured a bit too. Now that you're 25, you'll probably appreciate martial arts more.
Reply:most schools have a MMA night, where you can learn BJJ,boxing, wresting, judo, etc...pretty much everything, check it out.......it will make you a more rounded martial artist, and you will never get bored
Reply:I think all traditional martial arts disciplines are effective and have something positive to teach anyone, but not all discplines will appeal to everyone.
Clearly you have tried two which did not appeal to you at the time you tried them, but these are most definately two discplines that many people may recommend. Thus I would suggest that you should look at what is available in your area and go check them out for yourself. Talk with the instructor/s, observe a few classes, chat with the students, and maybe try a few classes out before committing.
No-one here can really advise you as there are too many variables. I would not agree with your contention tht UFC seems like the best style out there. UFC is certainly popular right now, but that does not mean it is the best, nor does it mean it will be suitable or appealing to you. Equally, I believe most UFC or MMA fighters are from traditional disciplines and the creation of schools which teach MMA concepts strictly for the UFC/MMA is a relatively new things.
Your size, weight, height, gender, body type etc. etc. really should not have any impact on the effectiveness of the discipline you choose. You can learn something from any discipline. You just have to take some time to find the discipline that most appeals to you :)
Good luck!

Need somebody to help explain capoeira concepts to me?
Im making a video game and one of my boss characters are going to be a capoeira fighter. Now I am a martial artist but I have only studied Muay Thai , Eagle claw Kung Fu, and Jujitsu in depth. I have a very brief knowledge of capoeira but not enough to design a great capoeira fighter. Anyways Im looking for somebody who understands capoeira and its concepts pretty well to explain some of its beleifs and style to me. I personally have always wanted to learn some , because my style is all about rythem and playing games with my oponent and kinda light hearted like capoeira, but I wont leave my current school for it. Anyways any help is appriciated.
Need somebody to help explain capoeira concepts to me?
it isn't about looking cool. Capoeira is a martial art developed by people who fought for their freedom. It involves being sneaky and able to attack from a large variety of positions. My teacher can attack in ways that seem impossible and from even the most uncomfortable position. The moves aren't flashy, they hurt, even the most obscure attack from my teacher are lightning fast and hurt like hell.
The escaping slaves didn't have music to dance by when their freedom was on the line, and they were hunted by search parties, They did serious damage and the art did not degrade into a mere dance. We still hit each other in capoeira, although we try not to.
you can watch capoeira videos on you tube for ideas. Anything with sul de bahia or batuque is good. One that caught my attention was called capoeira prodigy. Also, pay EXTREME attention to ones that have a mestre in it. A mestre is a master of capoeira; their fights are amazing, even if they slow (may be in title). People still kick and get kicked in capoeira.
I hear good things about the capoeira fighter in Tekken 3

Reply:It's basically dance fighting. That means the music is an important part of what you should have in the game. Although hands can be used to block and punch (think kick boxing with much more kick than boxing) it's more of the use of legs and head butting. Defense is rolling, ducking and side stepping rather than the standard arm blocks used in Asia. Baiting and fooling is also important. It's a art of style (cool moves and from trickery) over substance (damage).
Reply:I always thought Capoera was developed as a "hidden" fighting system developed by slaves who made it look like a dance form to mislead / disguise its true purpose from the land-owners/military/police. I could be wrong I suppose.
Reply:I have not studied the style myself but have several dvd's on the art. (my brother likes high, flashy, and street useless things). Anyway, from what I've read and heard about the art is that it is from the African slaves that were taken to Brazil. They were chained by the wrists, not the feet, do to the wet and soft ground. Seems to have allowed them an easier way of walking. From that they devloped the style from there art of fighting and dance. The dance was to hide that fact that they were training in a fighting style. Over time there owners only saw the dance and allowed them to keep it. As I understand that is the basic history of the style. I've seen it and personally find it's fighting ability to be in suspect. But it was passed off as dance for so long that maybe that is all that it became, after generations. I can see how a Capoeira pract. could "get lucky" with a high flashy, spinning kick and catch someone off guard, but for a real life down and dirty street fight I think it wouln't have the over all ability to be effective, past a "once in a life time, act of the almighty"

Do Universities Look at your clubs and voulenteer work?
Do Universities look at your clubs and voulenteer work?
EG. If i want to get into engineering, does it matter if:
1) I worked during the summer at an engineering firm for 3 years,
2) Joined the hockey team, robotic team, etc. during school
3) Gained my pilots license during the summer
4) Have 100 hours voulenteering at a daycare
5) Won Kung-fu awards
*This is only an example*
Like do universities actually care what clubs you joined? I also heard that people with more voulenteer hours are more likely to get in then people with less hours, is this true? How much does extra-cirucular activities/voulenteering/achievements affect your chances of getting into a university?
Do Universities Look at your clubs and voulenteer work?
That's a pretty awesome resume. As long as you make sure in your essay and make sure those teachers or authority figures that write recommendations for you get all that in. Colleges do look into outside work you've done, just like they don't just focus on the SATs or ACTs. Volunteer hours are always a bonus.
Just make sure you get it across some how. It's always a good point to bring up in interviews and admission counselors are always interested to see what you can bring to the school besides money of course.
Reply:They like to know about it but it doesn't make too much difference. What they want is the academic, but if someone looking at your application has the same interests then it makes everything a lot easier during personal interviews.
Reply:Part of it depends on the school. Many large public universities look mainly at GPA and standardized test scores. I've read a lot that it doesn't so much matter how many hours of volunteering, or how many/which clubs, but they like to see long-term earnest commitment to one or a few things.

Need some advice on first impression of my niece's boyfriend?
Just met this dude in the materinty ward no less. My sis tells me in code that this dude is a real dirt bag. My neice is only 17 and nine months pregers. I go to introduce myself and he gives me the matcho hand shake with the kung fu grip. I look him dead in the eyes and return his challenge with a stout grip of my own, and ask him. "What's this?" to which he says "Just a hand shake." I then tell him I'm her Uncle and love her very much so be sure and understand that her welfare is my first concern. I get the feeling he's the type that might slap her around a bit to which I feel powerless to do anything about without first being called on to act. I'm 53 now %26amp; he's maybe 20 or 21. There is no doubt in my mind I could educate this young man and I'm talking old school as is my rule. This kid thinks this old biker isn't much of a challenge but if I find out he's smacked my little girl around....well like I said I'd like to hear what y'all think. What should I do? Serious now.
Need some advice on first impression of my niece's boyfriend?
I've found that my instincts have generally been right when it comes to dirt bag people. There's something so similar in all of them; maybe it's their general lack of respect. However, no one learns respect at the end of a fist. Since he's not married to your niece, talk to her about him, keeping in mind that she's very young and will defend him and his actions. Rather than set up that scenario, maybe you could tell her you're there to help her protect her child. Give her a special code word or quote or name that she can use if she needs help; tell her you're doing this because your instincts and experience tell you that her boyfriend might eventually be a problem for her. If you start wailin' on him, though, she's going to jump in and defend him. So, just make sure they both know you're watching out for your niece and her child, and anyone who makes her life miserable will regret it. Then follow up with regular checks on her and the baby. If you include the baby, she's more likely to listen.
Reply:First, remember that this is her life, and her decision to make, good or bad. Second, make sure she knows you have nothing but her best interest at heart, and will be the first one to step in if she needs it. Also, make sure that he knows that, as well. You don't want to make an enemy of someone that could become a relative, but at the same time, blood is blood.
Reply:You need to have very honest and open communication with your niece. He may not be as bad as you think. The handshake was most likely his insecurity, because I'm sure you scared the crap out of him. If she stays with this guy, make it a priority to get to know him a little. Remember the saying keep your friends close and your enemies closer??? Then you can educate him without him feeling threatened. If he is a creep, just pray that your precious niece can see it.
Reply:Call the police... dont get involved where you could end up in jail or sued... over some dirtbag...
Reply:Tell your niece in no uncertain terms that you'll always be there for her.And tell the bf you'll always be around, and look him dead in his eyes.i'm sure he'll get the point then.
Reply:Well this guy is her choice---why is only her concern--but the guy maybe OK and just wasn't very impressive in the situation you all were in. Maybe it would have been better in a different time and place. I definitely would go with your "GUT" instinct...but again, you can't take matters into your own hands. If he is abusive, you have to follow the law--and she has to be the one to report it---you can only be supportive and protective to a point. Try being nice and talking like an adult to him---see if any good qualities are there that may be a surprise to you. It may go better than you think. Visits with her and him and the kids will be a lot better if everyone is congenial and happy. It is her life--her choice--her man--and if she is the type to endure abuse--she will need more attention than him. She will need to find out why she has such low self esteem---why she needs to be dominated---it could be something you know nothing about from early childhood. Please be fair and give this guy a chance--if there is a problem it will show eventually. Then you need to get her some real effective help from the law and then a pro can help her with whatever else she needs. Hey man, I don't want to see you on COPS--keep cool.Good luck
Reply:First you made a big no no. You listened to the family gossip and made an opinion of him before you had met him based on what your sis told you. Your letting your ego on a handshake that you are possibly intimated by this 20 something dudes handshake. Im sure you being a biker guy, you've been subject to people's opinions about you that you're the type of guy to smack a girl around too.
Remember to keep your nose out of the women's gossip, you wont help anyone out by listening and having a baised opinion. Watch and see how he does and judge him on that, not on the day when his girlfriend is having his baby. He's probably stressed out as it is, and not exactly the best time to be meeting new family. He's probably trying to show you with the handshake that he's capable of protecting your niece should anything happen. Dont forget this is her life to live and unfortunatly you get a backseat pass to her decisions. Be there for her regardless of the outcome, even tho if this is the first time you're meeting this dude and she's nine months pregnant... where have you been in her life that now all of this is such a big deal? If your gunna be there for her, be there for her all the way, not just the once a year family reunion in the mat. ward of a hosptial.
Reply:What makes me wonder is why does she think so little of herself to get mixed in with a creep like that to begin with? And I understand the wanting to be protective part but someone wasn't protecting her and brinning her up to see the right and wrong way to be treated if she is with a creep like that to begin with...
What should you do? Keep your nose out of it unless asked but you are welcome of course to let her know you are there for HER.
Reply:Call in your buddies if the time comes you need to educate him properly. Even if you are tough its good to have back up.

Which part of your fist should you touch first with on a target?
If you throw a punch at some one i have heard two ways, one that your front two knuckles land first and the other your pinky and ring finger connect first. i am still a student, only a green belt and in my school we land front knuckles first but another Black Belt I met at a seminar for a different style Kung Fu, im not sure which exact one though, and he said that you use the other two fingers. WHO is correct or are they both correct and just have different effect? HELP please I just want to understand.
Thanks and remember i am only a green belt with 2.5 years of Goju training. i am not an expert and know everything so please do not taunt me as if I am an expert and should know the answer, i would be a Black Belt if I did...=]]
Which part of your fist should you touch first with on a target?
To my knowledge the front two knuckles. I have rank in three Karate styles and it is all the same.
I even trained in Hung Gar and it was front knuckles.
so the other two would be a very unorthadox way and style, and IMO you would probably break your fingers and maybe wrist because you are not landing with a straight linear and strong arm and fist as Iron, but bent and weakened.
That is just my way, as i said it could be some unorthadox way which does not make it wrong, it just makes it different,
to bad you could not get a reason from the person who told you this.
Reply:First two knuckles friend. Thats how it is thrown. Its good to know how to throw a punch but also knowing how to throw empty hand is good. Keep learning it will take you far.
Reply:I've never heard anything but the first two knuckes for a straight punch. They are bigger and therefore less likely to break. This also straightens the wrist so that there is less chance of spraining or breaking it.
Are you sure te kung fu guy was not talking about some other kind of strike? There are other types of punches that use different knuckles.
Reply:You have answered your question yourself. Both are correct for their applications. Different styles can have different methods of striking, and different reasons for doing so.
I also studied Goju and in our style the strike is with the first two knuckles (and they have the largest bones in the hand to back them up) because this method focuses the energy of the strike into a small space and that magnifies the power of the impact. In Goju we use a whipping motion in the strike, delivering the power and quickly drawing the fist back. So, strongest part of the hand and small area to concentrate the power of the whip-like strike.
In some styles of kung fu, like Wing Chun which a couple of friends of mine studied and taught me a little one summer, they had strikes that began with the smaller knuckles and used a twisting motion of the wrist along with the arm and body movements to create a powerful thrusting motion, like hitting someone with a spear or the end of a staff and trying to push it through them. Another friend who studied Tai Chi, XIng Yi Quan, and Ba Gua showed me similar strikes.
You can see the difference in the strikes. Goju uses a whip-like strike to deliver a shocking blow, and the kung fu style uses a driving or drilling motion like trying to punch through the opponent's body. The Goju strikes could be used against either soft or hard body targets (head, jaw, solar plexus, ribs, etc.) while this kung fu type of striking would normally be used against softer parts of the body (neck, solar plexus, ribs, groin, etc.). If you ever hit someone in the skull with your smaller knuckles, or if you tried breakin boards of bricks with them, you would probably break your hand.
Reply:First two knuckles is the proper technique, but the last three is more natural. In wing chun in fact the last three are used.
Reply:I actually learned both ways. In martial arts, I learned to punch with my first two knuckles. then as I was training for kickboxing, I learned that boxers try top punch with the pinky side of the fist first, but my understanding of the idifference had a lot ot do with the protection of the hands offered with boxing gloves and wrapped hands.
Reply:you are learning goju-ryu, it is a karate style. the seminar you went to taught kung fu, which are different styles all together.
it usually depends on the style but generally, karate or tae kwon do styles use the first two knuckles. punching with the first two knuckles requires rotation of the hand so the knuckles are lined up horizontally
while kung fu styles like wing chun uses the last three knuckles, when punching with the last three knuckles is meant as a quick snapping punch with the knuckles lined up vertically.
so both are correct according to there respective styles.
Reply:There is never a single correct answer. However, think on this.
When people punch something and break the metacarpal bones in their hand which ones break first or are the weakest?
Survey says.. the smaller ones.. Line up the 2 metacarpal's behind the index finger and middle finger with your radius and ulna bones (in your forearm)
Strike with those to knuckles for the most force before it injures yourself.. My first instructor told us;
If you get into a fight, you could punch someone and give them a black eye... but if you break your hand and its in a cast for 6 weeks.. His eye is healed within a week but you can be proud of that cast as a trophy for "winning" a fight..
Its self defense... protect yourself from harm. Martial arts is physics , anatomy , and the kinetics of human motion
Reply:First two knuckles my son.. and I have the sore, cracked and bleeding ring and pinky knuckles to prove it - did my first session of 400 punches to a bag at training a few days ago... I'm buying GOOD sparring gloves before I do that again! Sabumnim pointed out that he could see quite clearly where my technique was at fault..... Thankful tho', I could have broken my hand or my wrist, or both.. Get it right before your hit hard and get good gloves or use wrappings.
All the best.

Strike with those to knuckles for the most force before it injures yourself.. My first instructor told us;
If you get into a fight, you could punch someone and give them a black eye... but if you break your hand and its in a cast for 6 weeks..

It is depend on what you are trying to accomplish, what inspire you, what you think fit your body and mind, everyone finds their path only through hard work of blood, sweat and tears. Try few here and there physically, and go with the one you think you can make a COMMITMENT to, meaning dedicate your life to.

Reply:I think You should move and besides you shouldn't have let them bother you in the first place even though you can't cange the pass. Do they even have a reason for bullying you because bullies can be retards themselves and maybe be jealous like always or they're being mistreated at home and taking it upon other people. The police don't give a crap these days, but at least you tried. Besides its really funny when someone threatens me because I'm going to get them back, but don't laugh at threats like that o_o. So please becareful =]
Reply:I find it hard to beleive that the Police didnt help much if you reported people coming around to your house with bats and knifes as there is a clear statutory laws reguarding the carrying of offensive and sharply bladed weapons. Plus the fact that you as a member of public saw the afor mentioned weapons in a public is evidence enough to make arrests and search houses. In requards to the martial arts two or twenty two years expeirence still would leave you ill equipped to confront weapons carriers. My advice is to stay away from confronting them, call the police on their arrival and keep a log of all goings on... Remember to give them the full details minus any exaggeration

Will taking a shower after I got a relaxer cause it to come out?
I got a relaxer on Sunday at around 12pm~1pm and then I went to my boyfriend's house. When I went home, which was around 8pm or 9pm, I took a shower because I hadn't showered in awhile and I didn't like the odor I might've been giving off. So I took a shower, and when I got out of the shower, my hair was still straight (and very nice looking may I add). And when it fully dried the next day for school, it was awesome!
However, the next day I had to wet my hair because it was really sweaty from Kung Fu and unexpectedly, it was...not really straight. Was this because I washed it out too soon? I didn't know I wasn't supposed to!
Will taking a shower after I got a relaxer cause it to come out?

Martial Art for the Streets?
Im picking between Karate,Jeet kune Do, kung fu and krav maga.
what should i pick?why?
this is strictly for real life situations and fights at school, what would be the best martial art to defend myself?
no stupid answers like running please lol
Martial Art for the Streets?
I would pick Krav Maga, because it is a modern MA and it is trained for street situations. In Krav Maga, you are trained to do anything that is necessary for your survival, including the use of surrounding objects, so you are allowed to fight dirty, in the streets, who cares about fighting dirty as long as you survive? One more thing, Jeet Kune Do is not a martial art, it is a philosophy from Bruce Lee about martial arts.
nah i would say mma jus ground and pound the mofo and if theres more than one guy....jus whoop some *** till u can get away
Reply:Krav maga looked real bad *** on Human weapon. But of all the styles shown on human weapon. I would say the Marine Corp Martial Arts was the baddest and best for street fighting. This coming from some one who has never fought before. Also to learn it you have to be a Marine and that is an honor. Don't fight in school then you'll get booted out and never become a Marine. Don't be stupid!!!
Reply:If you just want to defend yourself. I simply recommend you doing some weights. Fights at school is simply trading punches. As if they all know martial arts. Fights at schools could be most dependent on the basics of martial arts, that is reflex, practice on your reflex by doing more sports, etc.
Learning some dirty fighting would be good too. Any of the martial arts you chose is pretty much the same, either one could beat each other. Its just different people, maybe you should consult a martial arts teacher for this question. Maybe they could have a test for what martial arts is best for you?
Reply:pick three skills for deffence only
Reply:Jeet Kune Do. Karate and Kung Fu are too hit-and-miss as far as school quality goes (some are great and some not so much), and Krav is too damaging for a simple school yard fight.
Reply:jujitsu wouuld be the best type of martial arts for this situation. because the best way to win is to try and avoid the fight so no one gets hurt. but jujitsu is strictly salf defense and take downs. and all that good stuff
Reply:First, running away isn't a stupid answer. I'm not saying cower every time someone looks at you, but if you go around with an aggressive mindset escalating any possible situation into a fight, you won't last long. If I start talkin some trash in jest, but you take it seriously and attack me, I just might stab you. Or call in my buddy to hit you in the back of the head with whatever blunt object is nearest to him. You may wake up some time later, you may never wake up again.
Anyway, almost any martial art is good if you learn it well, and sometimes with supplementation (as in an art which does not take weapons into account). Although you make want to take into account your body type or natural affinity for things (like proficiency with Tae Kwon Do requires a lot of footspeed, Muay Thai requires the body of a Muay Thai fighter, grapplers need a really good sense of balance).

What was your favorite Nintendo game?
And I mean old school Nintendo, none of this newfangled stuff. The good old days of Super Mario Brothers, Duck Hunt, Kung Fu (complete with the cheesy music), Paperboy, Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden, and oh yes, Zelda. And the ORIGINAL Final Fantasy. Not Nintendo 64 or any of that jazz but the real old one. The one that was a box you opened a lid to, stuck the game in and pressed gently down. Never did beat ethier though.. my brother kept erasing them.. but I plan to get an emulatior soon and get back in the game to kick the big bad pig, Gannon!

Char. vocies.?
I would contact the screen actors guild of america. they handle a lot of such actors who do voices, they could likely provide you with more information on how to get started on such a career. A demo tape of your work would be very helpful. Michael Winslow of the Police Academy movies is a fine character voice person, if you can find how to contact him, ask him how he got started.

ALL BETS IN -THE WINNER GETS 10 points?
2 guys @ my school how are fighting , 1 is a close Friend and i want no his chances. AFTER THE FIGHT I WILL CHOOSE
THE YAHOO WINNER IF HE/SHE PREDICTS THE FIGHT eg- person A wins by k.o. because of punches or knees,i.e in detail
PERSON A
5''5
Very stong, can bench and squat more than in school.
Has lost to taller strickers but also beaten boxer.
He has a wrestling style im not sure what type . looks like judo or ju-jitsu and know a little boxing
PERSON B
5''7
Fast, knows how to fight ,he is known for he's karate or kung- fu.
he's been doing boxing for about 10 months
he is exlenent with his stricking
weight is 50-70 he' has alot of fight exp.
i'll try to post there post fight on you tube
ALL BETS IN -THE WINNER GETS 10 points?
I am going to take Person B will win this fight by knocking Person A out with a punch to the face
Reply:i reckon person B. he sounds harder.
Reply:its easy person A will win becoz he has a different types of fighting so person B can't sure where he will hit him but person A can make strategies as u said that person B fighting style is kung-fu or karate.
Reply:I am going for A - he's got a lower point of gravity (smaller) will be harder to knock down.
Also love the underdog
Reply:I am betting....that you need to get a life!
Reply:Person B will win by knocking Person A on his butt with a right cross
Reply:I'll go with B.
Reply:The guy with the darker hair will win.
Reply:person A takes the cake by a brutal ground and pound.
Reply:I'm betting this is a gigantic load of BS.
Reply:you lack enough sufficeint, and critical, information on person A for me to determine who would really win. We don't even know how much fight experience that A has.
If A is a wrestler, then B will win if he stays out of grab reach. However, if B gets too close or gets leg caught, B will trip him down into a grappling pin. The fight can only be ended in close quarters, so I say A wins via pin and maybe some punches to the pinned guy.

What you think of this Prince article?
John Nelson turns sixty-nine today, and all the semiretired piano man wants for his birthday is to shoot some pool with his firstborn son. "He's real handy with a cue," says Prince, laughing, as he threads his old white T-bird through his old black neighborhood toward his old man's house. "He's so cool. The old man knows what time it is." Hard time is how life has traditionally been clocked in North Minneapolis; this is the place 'Time' forgot twelve years ago when the magazine's cover trumpeted "The Good Life in Minnesota," alongside a picture of Governor Wendell Anderson holding up a walleye. Though tame and middle-class by Watts and Roxbury standards, the North Side offers some of the few mean streets in town. The old sights bring out more Babbitt than Badass is Prince as he leads a leisurely tour down the main streets of his inner-city Gopher Prairie. He cruises slowly, respectfully: stopping completely at red lights, flicking on his turn signal even when no one's at an intersection. Gone is the wary Kung Fu Grasshopper voice with which Prince whispers when meeting strangers or accepting Academy Awards. Cruising peacefully with the window down, he's proof in a paisley jump suit that you can always go home again, especially if you never really left town. Tooling through the neighborhood, Prince speaks matter-of-factly of why he toyed with early interviewers about his father and mother, their divorce and his adolescent wanderings between the homes of his parents, friends and relatives. "I used to tease a lot of journalists early on," he says, "because I wanted them to concentrate on the music and not so much on me coming from a broken home. I really didn't think that was important. What was important was what came out of my system that particular day. I don't live in the past. I don't play my old records for that reason. I make a statement, then move on to the next." The early facts, for the neo-Freudians: John Nelson, leader of the Prince Rogers jazz trio, knew Mattie Shaw from North Side community dances. A singer sixteen years John's junior, Mattie bore traces of Billie Holiday in her pipes and more than a trace of Indian and Caucasian in her blood. She joined the Prince Rogers trio, sang for a few years around town, married John Nelson and dropped out of the group. She nicknamed her husband after the band; the son who came in 1958 got the nickname on his birth certificate. At home and on the street, the kid was "Skipper." Mattie and John broke up ten years later, and Prince began his domestic shuttle. "That's where my mom lives," he says nonchalantly, nodding toward a neatly trimmed house and lawn. "My parents live very close by each other, but they don't talk. My mom's the wild side of me; she's like that all the time. My dad's real serene; it takes the music to get him going. My father and me, we're one and the same." A wry laugh. "He's a little sick, just like I am." "That was the church I went to growing up," says Prince. "I wonder who's getting married." A fat little kid waves, and Prince waves back. "Just all kinds of things here," he goes on, turning right. "There was a school right there, John Hay. That's where I went to elementary school," he says, pointing out a field of black tar sprouting a handful of bent metal basketball rims. "And that's where my cousin lives. I used to play there every day when I was twelve, on these streets, football up and down this block. That's his father out there on the lawn." These lawns are where Prince the adolescent would also amuse his friends with expert Prince is fiddling with the tape deck inside the T-Bird. On low volume comes his unreleased "Old Friends 4 Sale," an arrow-to-the-heart rock ballad about trust and loss. Unlike "Positively 4th Street" -- which Bob Dylan reputedly named after a nearby Minneapolis block -- the lyrics are sad, not bitter. "I don't know too much about Dylan," says Prince, "but I respect him a lot. 'All Along the Watchtower' is my favorite of his. I heard it first from Jimi Hendrix." He turns onto Plymouth, the North Side's main strip. When Martin Luther King got shot, it was Plymouth Avenue that burned. "We used to go to that McDonald's there," he says. "I didn't have any money, so I'd just stand outside there and smell stuff. Poverty makes people angry, brings out their worst side. I was very bitter when I was young. I was insecure and I'd attack anybody. I couldn't keep a girlfriend for two weeks. We'd argue about anything." Across the street from McDonald's, Prince spies a smaller landmark. He points to a vacant corner phone booth and remembers a teenage fight with a strict and unforgiving father. "That's where I called my dad and begged him to take me back after he kicked me out," he begins softly. "He said no, so I called my sister and asked her to ask him. So she did, and afterward told me that all I had to do was call him back, tell him I was sorry, and he's take me back. So I did, and he still said no. I sat crying at that phone booth for two hours. That's the last time I cried. In the years between that phone-booth breakdown and today's pool game came forgiveness. Says Prince, "Once I made it, got my first record contract, got my name on a piece of paper and a little money in my pocket, I was able to forgive. Once I was eating every day, I became a much nicer person." But it took many more years for the son to understand what a jazzman father needed to survive. Prince figured it out when he moved into his purple house. "I can be upstairs at the piano, and Rande [his cook] can come in," he says. "Her footsteps will be in a different time, and it's real weird when you hear something that's a totally different rhythm than what you're playing. A lot of times that's mistaken for conceit or not having a heart. But it's not. And my dad's the same way, and that's why it was hard for him to live with anybody. I didn't realize that until recently. When he was working or thinking, he had a private pulse going constantly inside him. I don't know, your bloodstream beats differently." Prince pulls the T-Bird into an alley behind a street of neat frame houses, stops behind a wooden one-car garage and rolls down the window. Relaxing against a tree is a man who looks like Cab Calloway. Dressed in a crisp white suit, collar and tie, a trim and smiling John Nelson adjusts his best cuff links and waves. "Happy birthday," says the son. "Thanks," says the father, laughing. Nelson says he's not even allowing himself a piece of cake on his birthday. "No, not this year," he says with a shake of the head. Pointing at his son, Nelson continues, "I'm trying to take off ten pounds I put on while visiting him in Los Angeles. He eats like I want to eat, but exercises, which I certainly don't." Father then asks son if maybe he should drive himself to the pool game so he won't have to be hauled all the way back afterward. Prince says okay, and Nelson, chuckling, says to the stranger, "Hey, let me show you what I got for my birthday two years ago." He goes over to the garage and gives a tug on the door handle. is a An "That. "We used parts of my past and present to make the story pop more, but it was a story. My dad wouldn't have nothing to do with guns. He never swore, still doesn't, and never drinks." Prince looks in his rearview mirror at the car tailing him. "He don't look sixty-nine, do he? He's so cool. He's got girlfriends, lots of 'em." Prince drives alongside two black kids walking their bikes. "Hey, Prince," says one casually. "Hey," says the driver with a nod, "how you doing?" Passing by old neighbors watering their lawns and shooting hoops, the North Side's favorite son talks about his hometown. "I wouldn't move, just cuz I like it here so much. I can go out and not get jumped on. It feels good not to be hassled when I dance, which I do a lot. It's not a think of everybody saying, 'Whoa, who's out with who here?' while photographers flash their bulbs in your face." Nearing the turnoff that leads from Minneapolis to suburban Eden Prairie, Prince flips in another tape and peeks in the rearview mirror. John Nelson is still right behind. "It's real hard for my father to show emotion," says Prince, heading onto the highway. "He never says, 'I love you,' and when we hug or something, we bang our heads together like in some Charlie Chaplin movie. But a while ago, he was telling me how I always had to be careful. My father told me, 'If anything happens to you, I'm gone.' All I thought at first was that it was a real nice thing to say. But then I thought about it for a while and realized something. That was my father's way of saying 'I love you.'" A few minutes later, Prince and his father pull in front of the Warehouse, a concrete barn in an Eden Prairie industrial park. Inside, the Family, a rock-funk band that Prince has been working with, is pounding out new songs and dance routines. The group is as tight as ace drummer Jellybean Johnson's pants. At the end of one hot number, Family members fall on their backs, twitching like fried eggs. Prince and his father enter to hellos from the still-gyrating band. Prince goes over to a pool table by the soundboard, racks the balls and shimmies to the beat of the Family's next song. Taking everything in, John Nelson gives a professional nod to the band, his son's rack job and his own just-chalked cue. He hitches his shoulders, takes aim and breaks like Minnesota Fats. A few minutes later, the band is still playing and the father is still shooting. Prince, son to this father and father to this band, is smiling. THE NIGHT BEFORE, in the Warehouse, Prince is about to break his three-year public silence. Wearing a jump suit, powder-blue boots and a little crucifix on a chain, he dances with the Family for a little while, plays guitar for a minute, sings lead for a second, then noodles four-handed keyboard with Susannah Melvoin, Wendy's identical-twin sister. Seeing me at the door, Prince comes over. "Hi," he whispers, offering a hand, "want something to eat or drink?" On the table in front of the band are piles of fruit and a couple bags of Doritos. Six different kinds of tea sit on a shelf by the wall. No drugs, no booze, no coffee. Prince plays another lick or two and watches for a few more minutes, then waves goodbye to the band and heads for his car outside the concrete barn. "I'm not used to this," mumbles Prince, staring straight ahead through the windshield of his parked car. "I really thought I'd never do interviews again." we drive for twenty minutes, talking about Minnesota's skies, air and cops. Gradually, his voice comes up, bringing with it inflections, hand gestures and laughs. faced icons of Yahweh or Lucifer. "We're here," Monroe to talk to. Indeed, if a real-estate agent led a tour through Prince's house, one would guess that the resident was, at most, a hip suburban surgeon who likes deep-pile carpeting. "Hi," says Rande, from the kitchen, "you got a couple of messages." Prince thanks her and offers up some homemade chocolate-chip cookies. He takes a drink from a water cooler emblazoned with a Minnesota North Stars sticker and continues the."This place," he says, "is not a prison. And the only things it's a shrine to are Jesus, love and peace." Off the kitchen is a living room that holds nothing your aunt wouldn't have in her house. On the mantel are framed pictures of family and friends, including one of John Nelson playing a guitar. There's a color TV and VCR, a long coffee table supporting a dish of jellybeans, and a small silver unicorn by the mantel. Atop the large mahogany piano sits an oversize white Bible. The only unusual thing in either of the two guest bedrooms is a two-foot statue of a smiling yellow gnome covered by a swarm of butterflies. One of the monarchs is flying out of a heart-shaped hole in the gnome's chest. "A friend gave that to me, and I put it in the living room," says Prince. "But some people said it scared them, so I took it out and put it in here." Downstairs from the living room is a narrow little workroom with recording equipment and a table holding several notebooks. "Here's where I recorded all of 1999," says Prince, "all right in this room." On a low table in the corner are three Grammys. "Wendy," says Prince, "has got the Academy Award." The work space leads into the master bedroom. It's nice. And...normal. No torture devices or questionable appliances, not even a cigarette butt, beer tab or tea bag in sight. A four-poster bed above plush white carpeting, some framed pictures, one of Marilyn Monroe. A small lounging area off the bedroom provides a stereo, a lake-shore view and a comfortable place to stretch out on the floor and talk. And talk he did -- his first interview in three years. A few hours later, Prince is kneeling in front of the VCR, showing his "Raspberry Beret" video. He explains why he started the clip with a prolonged clearing of the throat. "I just did it to be sick, to do something no one else would do." He pauses and contemplates. "I turned on MTV to see the premiere of 'Raspberry Beret' and Mark Goodman was talking to the guy who discovered the backward message on 'Darling Nikki.' They were trying to figure out what the cough meant too, and it was sort of funny." He pauses again. "But I'm not getting down on him for trying. I like that. I've always had little hidden messages, and I always will." He then plugs in a videocassette of "4 the Tears in Your Eyes," which he's just sent to the Live Aid folks for the big show. "I hope they like it," he said, shrugging his shoulders. change clothes." He comes back a couple minutes later wearing another paisley jump suit, "the only kind of clothes I own." And the boots? "People say I'm wearing heels because I'm short," he says, laughing. "I wear heels because the women like 'em." A FEW MINUTES LATER, driving toward the First Avenue club, Prince is talking about the fate of the most famous landmark in Minneapolis. "Before Purple Rain," he says, "all the kids who came to First Avenue knew us, and it was just like a big, fun fashion show. The kids would dress for themselves and just try to took really cool. Once you got your thing right, you'd stop looking at someone else. You'd be yourself, and you'd feel comfortable." As we pull up in front of First Avenue, a Saturday-night crowd is milling around outside, combing their hair, smoking cigarettes, holding hands. They stare with more interest than awe as Prince gets out of the car. "You want to go to the [VIP] booth?" asks the bouncer. "Naah," says Prince. "I feel like dancing." A few feet off the packed dance floor stands the Family, taking a night off from rehearsing. Prince joins the band and laughs, kisses, soul shakes. Prince and three of Family members wade through a floor of Teddy-and-Eleanor-Mondale-brand funkettes and start moving. Many of the kids Prince passes either don't see him or pretend they don't care. Most of the rest turn their heads slightly to see the man go by, then simply continue their own motions. An hour later, he's on the road again, roaring out of downtown. Just as he's asked if there's anything in the world that he wants but doesn't have, two blondes driving daddy's Porsche speed past. "I don't," Prince says with a giggle, "have them." He catches up to the girls, rolls down the window and throws a ping-pong ball that was on the floor at them. They turn their heads to see what kind of geek is heaving ping-pong balls at them on the highway at two in the morning. When they see who it is, mouths drop, hands wave, the horn blares. Prince rolls up his window, smiles silently and speeds by.
What you think of this Prince article?
